It's an experience, spending Christmas in another country. It's something different! It's nice to do that sometimes - if you can get away, that is. It seems like every Christmas and Easter, there are always delays at the airports for some reason or other - if it's not bad weather, then it's somebody on strike!

For starters, you're more relaxed because you're away from your normal environment and don't have the usual stresses. If you're visiting the equator or southern hemisphere, you're definitely in warmer climates and longer days. When you come back, you're not suffering as much from the post Christmas blues (now that I've started staying out of the country over Christmas, January and February are not depressing and am a lot less stressed).

nice weather for those how like warm conditions? maybe to go somewhere where there will actually be snow on xmas day so people can experience a white Christmas. some people may have lots of family abroad so for them it will be a chance to spend xmas with more members of the family. Going away from xmas may also mean that you ain't gotta cook for once...

Where do I start?
Better weather. Avoiding the relatives and the traditional Xmas Day verbal battles after lunch. Cheaper than buying presents (nobody will ask for their present if you return after Xmas, they'll think you have forgotten and will be too embarrassed to ask). No Queen's Speech (hurrah!!). No James Bond film with Roger 'Botox' Moore acting the wooden puppet. No Eastenders misery with Pauline Fowler and her miserable moosh. Cheaper booze abroad.
Have I given enough reasons. Do you want me to go on?

None if you haven't gone over a month before!!
Advantages of leaving a month ago would be easier travel, cheaper travel and then the usual warmer weather etc.
Now though you couldn't pay me unless it was many thousands to travel away around the Xmas period.

You get to stand around airports reading all the paperback books on the shelves of the bookstores because over half the flights are cancelled due to fog.

You have to be able to get away first!! Think i'd prefer to be in the comfort of my own home than sitting around at an airport waiting for the fog to lift.

I used to travel to Cebu Philippines at Christmas for my annual holiday, and now I live here. Sun, sea and sand, blue skies, and cool breezes.
Big bonus; you are unlikely to bump into Tony Blair here.
