I am not friends with my co-workers infact some are just contractors that I see daily. One of them gave me a xmas present and I declined to take it but, she insisted, am I obligated to buy her or any of my co-workers presents?

They may be giving you a gift to say "Thank You" for your help and the good job you are doing. You are not obligated to reciprocate and I am sure they do not expect it.

Of course not. Say thanks and wish them a Merry Christmas, but don't feel obliged to give a gift. I gave only 7 gifts this year to either bosses, co-workers or subordinates, and I come in daily contact with 30 or so. Great Question, Merry Christmas!

No obligation. However, if you like the giver of a particular present at least send a thank you note, if not a small gift in return.

no you don't, just write a thank you card but it would be nice. (hint) If the gift looked expensive then buy a gift even if its not much.(a few bucks will work) But if it lookes cheap send a card or a small gift (good cheap gift can be bought at like gas stations) If your not sure look it up on the internet (try amozon.com or e-bay that will give you a pretty good guess) They go from there (that amount of reasoning has NEVER failed me or any of the people that used the advice.)

I recently read no, you're not obligated at all. Gifts are given freely.

But, you should keep a few small things wrapped and tucked away for such an occasion just in case to reciprocate.

I don't do this :) But I've read we should.

do no longer sense to blame at involved in no longer likely to the 2nd bathe -- you already offered her a modern for the paintings bathe so which you're lined. Plus you noted as the host and gave her a heads up which you will no longer make it, and that's much better than maximum visitors do. i'm useful she will understand.

not obligated but it might be a nice gsture, if you feel compelled to do so. after all, she insisted on it after you declined. I would probably get her a thank you card, thats all.
