I was going to run a system restore point to restore to around 8pm yesterday, but later that night around 10pm the computer automatically updated the internet explorer browser thing. If I restore back to the point at 8pm, will the update to my internet explorer be lost? Will I have to re update that?

yes, you'll have to re Upade your IE. why ? because system restore point save all of your windows registry. And once you restore it, it'll be returing your Windows registry position back to the position where you create the System Restore Point. So that's why you need to re update the IE after restoring the system restore.

My suggestion Do not use IE because IE's slow, and unsecured (see http://www.stopie.com). I suggest you to use Mozilla Firefox 2.0. Because it's more secure and fast and you don't have to worry about reupdate after System Restore. And Mozilla FireFox's the best web browser.

Yes your update will be lost along with anything else that was changed after the restore point you pick.
