It really depends on what the source of the pain is. I have had many injections. Some have worked and I didn't need anymore in that spot. I've had some that have only lasted a short amount of time and have needed a second injection to help. Yes, usually the pain gets worse right after the injection. It's called the cortisone flare. It would happen about the 2nd day into the 3rd day and be pretty intense for a day or two. Then things would improve. But everyone is different. If you don't want to do this then tell the doctor that you don't want to. And ask what other options there are for you. What about steroid pills like prednisone or something? Ask if that would help you.

One needs to be careful with cortisone. Doctors tend to overuse it and that causes more problems long term.
Talk to your doctor about pain meds, physical therapy, nsaids, etc. Good luck
