I gotta tell ya, that's not among the most silly things in the Bible. It gets a lot worse than that.

Leviticus 11:13 says “‘And these are what YOU will loathe among the flying creatures. They should not be eaten. They are a loathsome thing: the eagle and the osprey and the black vulture, 14 and the red kite and the black kite according to its kind, 15 and every raven according to its kind, 16 and the ostrich and the owl and the gull and the falcon according to its kind, 17 and the little owl and the cormorant and the long-eared owl, 18 and the swan and the pelican and the vulture, 19 and the stork, the heron according to its kind, and the hoopoe and the bat...
The command speaks of flying creatures that should not be eaten not specifically birds, it just that there were mostly birds mentioned. Since bat is a flying creature then it is under that category and not of birds why it was included.

From Leviticus 11:
13 " 'These are the birds you are to detest and not eat because they are detestable: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture, 14 the red kite, any kind of black kite, 15 any kind of raven, 16 the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk, 17 the little owl, the cormorant, the great owl, 18 the white owl, the desert owl, the osprey, 19 the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat. [b]
Like someone above me said, "The Old Testament was not written in English! The Hebrew word used meant "flying things". Not specifically birds." Actually, God is protecting his people by laying down these laws. The meats of the animals God says to detest often carry parasitic worms, which will feed on humans. So God actually saved many of his people from a painful death by giving them these rules.

The bible as we know it is not the word of God, so no God isnt that stupid to think bats are birds.
I dont know Leviticus so i cant really comment on it as a verse but you should be wary about taking the modern day bible, whatever edition it is, as the word of God as it is a book that has been corrupted by man.

The word mammal did not exist in bible days and is not in the Bible from cover to cover, so what word would you use to describe a bat? Don't you realize that classifications of creatures is relatively new on this planet? In case you are wondering the word "automobile" is not in the Bible either. Maybe you are the silly one not God.

Our modern animal classifications didn't exist back then - so if thousands of years ago the human writers of Leviticus called anything that flew around a bird, I don't see what the big deal is.

Did you know? The Old Testament was not written in English! The Hebrew word used meant "flying things". Not specifically birds. Quit picking at things you don't really know anything about.

No, He's not.
God could have "filled people in" thousands of years ago on a lot of science and nature questions.
But He also gave us intellect and the ability to make progress in technology and knowledge by ourselves. He expects us to use that gift. He expects us to figure out a lot of things in this world by ourselves.
He therefore had no reason to hasten human progress in the areas of knowledge and science, by "getting involved" too much.

No he/she has a since of humor, and since "man" is SO gullible he/she thinks it is funny to "mess with "man's" head" our god is a loving and forgiving god so who is to say god DOESN'T have a since of humor.
