I know they share the same Corolla platform. But I'm wondering if the Vibe has only some Toyota engine parts that have been machined to fit some kind of GM engine.

Nope, it's the same exact engine. Really the only differences are the body panels, lights, and grille.

Yes, the Matrix has a Toyota engine, a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder that makes either 130 or 180 hp depending on model (XRS without AWD is 180 hp). The Matrix is mostly a Toyota vehicle (sold elsewhere in the world as the Volta?). There are some GM pieces, but mostly, it's a Toyota.

Not only does it have the same engine, its the same car, with only the sheetmetal design being different. A Vibe is a Toyota.

The answer to your question is the Vibe and Matrix comes off the SAME assembly line using 90+ % of same parts. They are built in Fremont, CA in the NUMMI auto plant.

Yes they are almost identical except body design I'm a master Toyota tech and i have worked on many of them

Yes actually it does have a Matrix Engine, I know this as my mechanic just bought one and we were talking about it and this is actually what we talked about.
