I assume there are emergencies that happen where the passengers or general public are never aware that they even occurred (unless its terribly obvious). True?

Also, is there a way to examine any emergencies/mishaps that happened on a flight that I was on? I know that its possible to look up flight data information online after a flight with flight trackers, but I've never seen a list of "incidents" along with this data. Is there such a thing?

They certainly do happen. My wife and I were caught up in an in flight emergency shortly after take off on a British Airways Jumbo two months ago in Capetown.

It took three hours to dump fuel and then we landed hard and fast with all the emergency vehicles spaced along the runway access points.

It is rare for an aircraft to suffer a really life threatening problem nowadays except for airlines of the poorer countries with bad maintenance procedures.

It is good that these things do remain out of the public eye in the main as there are a lot of people that get frightened very easily. Air travel is the safest form of travel and can only get safer.

The FAA does keep track of incidents, the types of incidents (such as runway incursions, minor collisions between ground handling equipment and aircraft, Foreign Object Damage [FOD], etc.), and their causes. Such incidents cost airlines many millions every year, so improving safety on the ground is a major issue.

You will probably never see this data unless you go directly to the FAA website. They have a search function to search the database and see the different incident reports and the level of damage to the aircraft.

go to the NTSB website,

Keep in mind that the reports are anywhere from 3-18 months backed up,

I lost a friend to a crop dusting accident nearly 3 years ago and the report still isnt out.
they usually take thier time in fatal incidents,
non fatal, or runway incursions are usually pumped right out,

There are thousands of incidents that dont make the news.

Most of the time the media does not report anything related to aircraft mishaps unless a bunch of people are killed. To find out about Incidents which are required to be reported go to:
http://www.ntsb.gov/aviation/aviation.htm
and look them up.
