Well it depends on the look I had Orange on top My natural darker color underneath then Red and now I have Orange on top Red in the middle and natural on the bottom. Next week I'm going for orange on top and all Red underneath. I really like the layered color look even though its not very natural it shows that your adventurous in to trying new things and not just going to stand in the background no matter what colors you choose.
And by the way in contrast to what other people said my hair is long no layers and my colors aren't contrasted to much your colors either need to be contrasted extremely or in the same color family like my Red and Orange. Nor is my color low lighting, low lights are highlights but as apose to being lighter that the natural color the new color is darker.

I love it! It's a lot of upkeep depending on your natural color for the blonde on top. It's great with med-long hair and lots of layers. Good Luck!!

This is called Low Lighting and it's trendy.
I have not done this yet but I will. It looks very cute.Christine Applegate did this in one of her TV series, but not "Married with Children"

Personally, I think it looks ridiculous. A teller at a bank that I go to has done that professionally and I think she looks like a clown. Her colors are nice but together, they look weird and very abnormal-
