To answer 'whynotask'.....I must share the following true injunctions of Quran.
1."And if anyone of the idolaters seeketh thy protection (O Muhammad), then protect him so that he may hear the word of God, and afterward convey him to his place of safety. "(The Qur’an 9:6)
2.The Holy Quran lays down:
"You who believe, do not let one (set of) people make fun of another set."
"Do not defame one another."
"Do not insult by using nicknames."
"Do not backbite or speak ill of one another."
(49:11-12)
3."There should be no coercion in the matter of faith." (2:256)
4."[2:190-192] And fight in the cause of Allah with those WHO FIGHT WITH YOU, and do not exceed the limits, surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits. And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from where they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque (in Makkah) UNTILL THEY FIGHT WITH YOU in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the reward of the unbelievers. But if they desist, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. And fight with them until there is no persecution, and religion should be only for Allah, but if they desist, then there should be no hostility EXCEPT AGAINST THE OPPRESSORS."

Say : We believe in God and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham and Ismael and Issac and Jacob and the tribes and in that which was given to MOSES and JESUS and in that which was given to all prophets from their Lord. WE MAKE NO DISTINCTION BETWEEN ANY OF THEM and to Him do we submit." ---The Quran
6."Fight in the cause of God those WHO FIGHT YOU, but do not transgress limits; for God loveth not transgressors. (The Noble Quran, 2:190)"
7."But if the enemy incline towards peace, do thou (also) incline towards peace, and trust in God: for He is One that heareth and knoweth (all things). (The Noble Quran, 8:61)"
8."God does not forbid you from showing kindness and dealing justly with those WHO HAVE NOT FOUGHT WITH YOU about religion and HAVE NOT DRIVEN YOU OUT OF YOUR HOMES. God loves just dealers. (The Noble Quran, 60:8)"
9."Say : O ye that reject Faith! I worship not that which ye worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. To you be your Way, and to me mine. (The Noble Quran, 109:1-6)"
10." O you men, surely we have created you of a male and a female and made you tribes and families that ye may know each other."--The Quran,[ 49:13 ]
11." Who is the most favoured of Allah ? He from whom greatest good comes to his creatures."--The Quran
12." Assist any person oppressed, whether muslim or non-muslim."--Mohammad
13." Make peace among them with justice and act equitably, surely Allah loves those who act equitably."--The Quran [49:9]
14.The critical Gibbon coclusively proves that, "...to his Christian subjects, Mohammad readily granted security of thier persons, the freedom of thier trade, the property of thier goods and the toleration of thier worship. Because Human Nature is what it is. Greed, arrogance, and the self is what is important to most leaders, in any country, particularly now days.
Many people around the world are illiterate, and so need to rely on others for their education on i.e. spiritually matters.
Thus, because of the leaders (Whomever that may be) has taken the spiritual aspect out of Islam and turned it into an ideology, and more often for the reasons mentioned above.
Unfortunately the people who know this are either drowned out by the mental people or are too afraid, again by the mental people.
If people know anything about Islam (Not, I might add, hear say!) then one would know that 'militant-Islam' is actually an oxymoron.

islam's true teaching is to kill infidels or convert them by force. Thats what the quran says, people dont shout allahou akbar right before stoning a women for adultery for no reason. Its all written in the religion. Just because you see it as socailly unacceptable doesnt mean it's not the true religious teachings.

Its due to unawareness of teaching of Islam, people don’t study their religions they just believe that they hear from their religious leader, who is most literate person most of the case as I have seen people want their child to become doctor engineer but not religious scholar as they see no future in this field and a illiterate scholar will only teach lesson that he can understand with his narrow thinking. That’s why religion of peace “Islam” is portaged so.

Because like most organized religions the people in the clergy have different ideas on what the message really means. They try to make it mean what they need it to mean, look at Christianity for example; Jesus had a message, Paul/Saul came by later with a "slightly" different interpretation of that message.

The Western world particularly is not ready to accept the Quaran at face value as it MUST be done to be a true muslim
The mullahs have to re interpret the word to make it much less blood thirsty and acceptable to the new students.

Fight and slay the pagans (infidels) wherever ye find them, and seize them,

"Prophet, make war on unbelievers and hypocrites, and deal rigorously

"Let not the unbelievers think they will ever get away. They have not
the power to do so. Muster against them all the men and cavalry at
your command, so that you may strike terror into the enemy of Allah
and your enemy... Prophet, (Mohammed) rouse the faithful to arms!
If they (the non-Muslims) incline to peace (accept Islam) make
peace with them." - Sura 8:59
"If they reject your judgement, know that it is Allah's wish to scourge
them for their sins." - Sura 5:49
"Believers (Muslims), take neither Jews nor Christians to be your
friends: they are friends with one another.
Whoever of you seeks their friendship shall become one of their number,
and God does not guide (those Jewish and Christian) wrong-doers." - Sura 5:51
Mohameds antics can not be accepted by people who live in the 21st Century.........even though it is history, it is distasteful so the history must be re written.

Because the true muslims are being shut out, and the ones that publicly represent islam are promoting Self-benefits, Selfishness and Greed for power and control. They provoking people who in despair and spiritually weakened by suffering from anguish and poverty into hatred and aggression and tell them that Allah wants them to kill, maim, pilage, plunder and rape.
God doesnt want people to do that... but the Greedy False Imams and Clerics lead them down that morbid road.

Islam can not be drifting.Its teachings are known centuries ago and learned by heart.May be you are referring to some persons who call themselves Muslims and this is a different thing.
