That is not a simple question to answer. First you need to know the rules of poker. In other words what hand beats what hand. Ex- Three of a kind beats two pair, and a full house beats a flush. If you don't know poker lingo you should read a book to learn it or look it up on-line. Next you need to know how to bluff and things like that. It's like the Kenny Rogers song "you gotta know when to hold'em and know when to fold'em." You can only learn things like that by playing the game. I would suggest watching someone first. Also note there are lots of poker games you have to learn how to play. Ex- Texas Holdem, Five Card Draw or Stud, Seven Card Stud, No peek, Omaha, Gut, Between the Sheets, and lots of others. There are also variations of the games listed above like Queens and what Follows or Low Hole Wild for Seven card stud. The best thing to do is read up alot on it, then watch someone play, then play yourself (for fun) before you start for money. Good luck!

Go to yahoo games and then select poker, once there you can choose to watch a game in action rather than play. When you feel ready, have a go in the beginners room, it's not real money..just for fun.

theres a lot to explain, and there are many different types of poker- omaha, hold'em, stud, etc. and they all have very different rules. youre better off doing a google search for a how-to guide on whatever variation you want to play.
if youre trying to learn the poker that's on TV all the time, that's texas hold'em
