None of the monkeys species living today could likely be called an ancestor. But even if they could it wouldn't prove anything. It would just mean that some smaller population split of from the whole at some point and was subjected to different selection pressures.

For questions about evolution and inconsistencies you think you may have found, you should consult talk origins first. The site addresses questions like this as well as more sophisticated ones that have been raised.

If you are interested in learning more, I would also recommend the writings of Stephen J. Gould.

And don't let some of the responses here put you off. Just because someone is a jerk, doesn't mean they're wrong about the issue at hand.

Well, you don't seem to know much about evolution. Man did not come from monkeys. A monkey did not one day give birth do a human being and then mankind was on its way. Millions of years ago, there was a creature. Kind of like a monkey but not all the way. Small, bipedal, probably omnivorous. What happened is that thru the millions of years, the offspring of this creature and those offspring and so on and so forth evolved. Some evolved into monkeys and some into humans. This is an over simplified explanation but it is short.

That is why there are humans and monkeys together. Science can show how humans and monkeys share an ancestor. Comparative anatomy alone shows that man and monkey are almost the same. Fossil evidence can show a progression of mankind thru the eons. DNA is also opening up some windows into this process.

Evolution is a misinterpretation of facts. In essence a religion itself. However many creation beliefs are a misinterpretation of facts as well. If all the facts are not discounted and studied, I think you will find that reality is somewhere inbetween.

Things do evolve and change but not transpecies. There is no evidence of this. Even the top evolutionists have identified Neanderthal man is more advanced than modern man and simply a different species of human than us. There are numerous articles on this from the top people studying it. Even DNA evidence has proved that all generations of people have come from just a few people. It is called the big dip. Because evolution cannot have a break in the genetic chain, they interpret it to mean that humanoids were almost extinct at one time about 30,000 years ago and built up from just a few. However this could mean that we came from maybe two people. The genetic research indicates it.

However creationists have a hard time making the earth 6000 years old and placing dinosaurs.

I believe if you strip away both beliefs and stick with the facts, it all fits.

Just because monkeys are still here doesn't mean that evolution doesn't happen. we did not evolve from modern day apes, both humans and apes evolved from another more primative primate. it's just they and us evolved in two separate environments so we evolved differently.

and those primative primates evolved from even more primative ones etc etc right back to the fishes in the sea and before that the primordial soup (which is still only a theory at pressent)

I still fail to see why christians do not beleive in evolution. THe facts are there, and there is nothing in the story of evolution which catagorically denies god. Maybe god started the whole procedure off? I don't know.

But modern science does not state that god couldn't hav done any of the things that christians say he has. Even the big bang theory doesn't disprove that. Some christians say it enhanced the presence of god.

Personally I am atheist, so My beleife is that one day science will explain all the mysteries, but hey, who really knows.

You bet! The bible does not mention airplanes, TVs, computers, and guess what??? Here we are using these inventions!
Instead of believing for the sake of it, you may want to do some research on your own. REAL scientific sites (not people's opinions) will tell you that monkeys are evolving only to become better monkeys, not humans. They are two different species. Humans evolve to become better humans. Dogs evolve to become better dogs and so forth and so on. To think that monleys will become humans is a fallacy. Somehow some people read the silly non-scientific statement that humans descended from monkeys and they refuse the idea -- as they should -- and then they close their minds to the rest of the statement: evolution occurs among the same species.

Welcome to the newest member of the Ignorant Creationist Hall of Fame.

There is nothing whatsoever in evolution that predicts that there should be no monkeys. The "if we come from monkeys, why are there still monkeys around?" question has long held the top position in the list of stupid creationist questions - asking it simply reveals that you know nothing whatsoever about evolution AND you didn't make any honest effort whatsoever to know what you were talking about before you criticized it.

If you believe that (1) organisms inherit some characteristics from their parents, that (2) organisms have a variety of characteristics, and that (3) not all organisms have the same number of offspring, you have to accept that evolution occurs. To deny evolution you must say which one of those three claims you believe is false. You cannot do so without making an utter fool of yourself - they are all true, and it would be utterly asinine to deny any of them.

Do you believe you got some of your parents traits when you were born? Do you believe you are exactly the same genetically as your brother or sister?

It's as simple as that. If you say Yes to Q1 and No to Q2 then you believe in evolution to some extent.

Believing in evolution, however, does not necessarily mean you believe that humans came from monkeys. It's probably more accurate to say that we both came from a common ancestor somewhere along the line.

Evolution is a fact. It's not about belief anymore. It's about accepting reality or not accepting reality.

I DO accept the reality of evolution.

And by the way, humans didn't evolve from monkeys. Homo sapiens and many primates evolved from a common ancestor. See... this is why Creationists shouldn't be allowed to teach their baseless theory in school... kids come away with a warped understanding of evolution and a reenforced unscientific dogma.

evolution has been proven, its just not proven that we were evolved from monkeys, do your research. and my question is if evolution is proved with birds and other animals then why cant it be proved through humans, were mammals theres one shred of support we came from an animal. so why do u all accept the bible and that god created us if evolution has been proven a fact through some/most species???

You know why you don't understand it? You haven't spent any time reading about it. Can anyone understand math and science or history without reading and studying it? No, you can't. The same with evolution. You want to understand it or be able to speak about it intelligently, study it.
