It depends on the department, but salary is for 40 hours per week. Sometimes you work more and get compensation time instead of overtime pay. So if you work 8 hours of overtime in a two week period, you'd get a paid day off. Because of shift work, prep time and court, ect., you very rarely work Mon-Fri 9-5. But for the most part you work 4 or 5 days a week and 2 or three 3 days off depending on length of days. Hope this helps.

I work 4 on and 3 off. But our department also has people working 5 on and 2 off.
I like the 10 hour days. Once you get to work, what is an extra couple of hours in exchange for another day off?

I have friends who are cops, and in the department they work for, one week they work 5 days, say Monday thru Friday, and they're off Saturday and Sunday. The next week, they work 2 days, and are "off" for five. I know that sounds stupid, but that's how they explained it to me. Another friend of mine is a cop, and he works six nights a week, one night off. The next week, he'll work 6 days a week.
That's screwed up, I know.
