OK- I know it sounds really bad but someone bought us a gift and it's broke. Well, now the store no longer carries this type of vacumme so they won't take it back even though it's not even a couple weeks old!! It's completely broken, the engine never worked correctly - I called the manufactor and they won't fix it unless I pay for parts and to ship the darn thing!! I am going crazy!! This thing was like $150.... and now they have a new model in the store which is a little more. I am seriously thinking about buying a new one and throwing the old one in the box and returning it. Is that terrible??
Has anyone ever done this before?? If you have let me know if you got away with it!! LOL
Yes, I know it's bad Karama... but I am just so mad at the store for not trying to help me or replace it!!

Store says they won't take it back for credit without a recept. Can't get the receipt from the friend- they are elderly and can't find it. Store won't take it back for store credit because they not longer carry this model- and they can't get me a new one. They told me to call the manufactor. Manufactor wants me to ship it to them and then they will decide if it's unwarrenty or if I broke it. But I have to pay to ship this vacumme back and forth- it's like $60 just for shipping!!!

Yeah, did that once before with a blender.
In my mind, you bought a defective product and paid for it with your hard earned money so the least they can do is replace it with a new one. It's the manufacturers problem if they can't make good stuff, not yours. Why should you suffer because their product doesn't work.
At least that's what I was telling myself when I returned the blender.

Stinking store. This happened to me once and yeap I certainly entertained the notion but the product and the picture on the box didn't match even though one replaced the other. Make one more effort to "exchange" the item and speak to the Returns Manager if you get blown off. If that doesn't get it the General Manager is your next step. Remain calm, don't call anyone any names and state your case using as few words as possible...it always works for me. The store have a web site??? log your complaint there also.
I know this is a rotton thing to ask but here goes anyway...have you considered this gift is perhaps a "regift" and although it appears NIB it may have sat in the closet for a long time. Maybe you should seek the help of the person that gave it to you.

You mean like buying a broken item on ebay close to nothing and putting it in the new fresh box with the receipt? I've never done that but thought about it which is why I'm at this page after googling to see if anyone has done it I'm sure they have.
One time I bought a socket extender heavy duty and snapped it like a twig and brought it back to wally world. Also I screwed the pouch and blew up a car stereo I was installing and returned it claiming it never worked. lol.
I've know druggies to get creative find receipts and steal the items and return them. That's actually pretty common.

VERY illegal...its basically stealing. If you get caught you could get prosecuted and face a HUGE fine and jail time. If you get away with it you have a free vacuum. I know people that have done it but if you get caught you could be in some major trouble.
Something doesn't match up though...why wouldn't the store take it or the company back up their product...something just doesn't match up with your story. I Think there's more to it than you lead on.

We have this problem twice with 2 different vacuums. For some reason the stores don't do returns on them, so yeah, both times we did the old switcheroo and got away with it.
Try to do something really really good to make up for it.

I would not do it!!! Companies have gotten smarter and will figure out what you did! And, it is considered stealing!!! I do not think this is worth getting into real trouble! You could write the company and manufacturer and express your output with the situation and tell them what happened! If they still refuse to help, than do not buy anything from that store or manufacturer again! Actions do speak louder than words...eventually, a company will go out of business for not taking care of their customers!

I've done it quite a lot. Not a big deal - the store will just send it back to the manufacturer anyway and get thier money back or a replacement. Isn't that what you were trying to do in the first place?

I did once. I bought a light fixture at Home Depot and it broke under a year. I went and bought another one, packaged the old one in the box and returned it. Why in the world should I have to pay for another light fixture ? I was a bit nervous they would open the box but they didn't and everything worked out good.
