psychiatric hospitals are full of the folks that "God" overwhelmed with sorrow and pain.

"God won't give you than you can handle" is one of the more stupid platitudes that is too often served up cold on a platter of inanity.

sometimes I feel like I got the short end of the stick. I have a pain disorder and haven't found the right medical combination to take my pain away (imagine living your whole life with pain in your body that ranges from arthritis-like symptoms to the feeling of being stabbed by knives). I sometimes wonder why God gave me this condition, but I remember that i'm still working (others with this condition don't work) and that there are people far worse off then me.

I think God knows I can handle this. I don't think God gives us problems, but when we are handed something, we always possess in ourselves the ability to handle it or move along.

No. He has given His promise. I believe He is telling the truth even though at times it may seem like it is more than we can handle.

1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].

I thought for the last couple of years that he was giving me more than I could handle...but as I have taken off chunks of the load and slowly climbed back up I have found that I see things more clearly now than ever before.....I feel better.....I am more productive....and the stress which seemed unbearable at times did not kill me and I believe has truly made me stronger.

He allows only not give.

James 1:13 When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. 14 But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death.

Where does trial, suffering and temptation come from? Consider Jesus was tempted not by God but by Satan.
In the story of Job, it was not God who gave him those suffering but Satan. He only allowed Satan but warned him not to kill Job. Same goes for us, God allows us to suffer but it does not come from him nor does he allow more than we can bear.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has taken YOU except what is common to men. But God is faithful, and he will not let YOU be tempted beyond what YOU can bear, but along with the temptation he will also make the way out in order for YOU to be able to endure it.

God does not give anything.

I have never had more than I could handle but it has come close once or twice.

God never gives us more than we can handle. Unless it kills us.

No, but I'm often disappointed to learn how much I can handle.

this is a non question, which only reminds me of aa.

It's meaningless to atheists. There is only good and bad faith, from the existential piont of view.
