English is not a phonetic language. German, Japanese, Spanish and a number of other languages have rules where consonants and vowels have specific sounds which when used are always the same simplifying spelling.
With English, one has to learn the ins and outs of spelling quirks such as in finger and phone. meat, meet, feat, feet, might and mite.
Some simple good ones for sound and spelling differences are: clown, clone, own, moan. Or, through, threw, mew, sew.
Interesting but not much applicable logic.

Truth be told, not everyone is a good speller. I know I'm not, so I always use spell check. Also, it's easy to make a typo, and if you don't take the time to use spell check, you don't notice the mistake. So, I think most of it just comes down to being in a hurry and not wanting to take the time to check it.

Its not that alot of people try to be. Its just right now its so eeasy to substitute letters to make new words. Some people just try to be creative. Plus the English language is constant changing, who knows when what you're spelling is correct or not. Some people also tyoe like they're texting. When you text you use alot short cuts to get your message across. Let's just accept each other flaws and continue to put out good Q&A's.

English is that easy of a language to learn, especially spell.
When you think about it, a phrase such as "the queen's clockwork" has FOUR "k" sounds (q in queen and the c, ck and k in clockwork). Yet each of these four "k" sounds are spelled differently.
This is just one example of the "non-phonetic" spelling issues with English, which will lead to higher spelling mistakes.

Because egukashun doesn't seem to be a fundamental anymore. There is no discipline in learning, and slacker parents, who do not push their kids to strive better. My parents were all over me about my grammar and spelling, and I am with mine. However, it seems like some countries (not giving example of American's or anything like that!), dont want none of that good english!! (Urgh, I hate the double negative!!! Sorry officer I dont know nothing about my exhubbys dead body in the trunk of my car!)

Speaking and spelling are two completely different skills. You don't need to be able to spell a word to be able to use it properly. Some people just never warm up to spelling.

Quite possibly because a great many people rely upon television, which is largely an aural medium, for information. Another reason might be that people are rather less inclined than they once were to study languages and grammar.

Some people will say that they are uneducated, but most are in a hurry and/or too lazy to hit the spell check.

If it were a phonetic language, there would be a lot less mistakes. You can't blame it on people being badly educated.

If they are Americans, it is because the US public school system is so sub-par.
The English language has lots of rules, with exceptions to every one. Spanish, for example is a much simpler language, with fewer rules, therefore easier to spell correctly.
