Okay this is a question for all you DIY experts. I am wanting to paint my kid's room, which has had problems in the past with damp. The wallpaper has now been removed and this has left quite an uneven finish. So having used a bit of sandpaper this made it quite smooth, but then i went over this with a damp cloth which made it sticky and gluey. What should I do before painting, the paint that i have got is used for rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms to deal with the damp.

Primer.
My favorite brand is KILZ, it will help seal the dampness in the walls. Certain types of KILZ primer will prevent mold and rust.

obtain some wallpaper glue remover and remove old glue by washing and brushing. then the walls must be dry before you paint, being sure to apply primer and you may need to use a bit more sandpaper at this point. next, make sure the finalpaint is reccomended for damp conditions, consult your paint supplier. good luck

Use Fabric Softner and very hot water and wash the walls down with it, let sit for a few minutes then use a green scrubbie, the paste will come off like magic. Afterwards wash again with TSP (available at any hardware) patch any holes, imperfections & prime with a high grade primer, priming patches twice, to avoid flashing. Then apply 2 finish coats..

dont paint with primer or anything untill you have removed all the old wallpaper paste off the wallsor it will just flake off. have you thought about hanging linning paper you could do this and you woudent have to clean off the old paste i would recomend a 1000 grade linning paper. this would leave a perfect surface for painting. remember to let the linning paper to soak before hanging. merry christmas . alex (painter &decorator

Use some joint compound over the rough spots, feather it out and sand it smooth. Then use a good primer. You'll never notice a problem again.

You might want to ask about using a primer with a sealer. I know there are several different brands available, and you can have it tinted to be close to your paint color so you won't have to do as many coats of paint.

You will have to remove the rest of the glue on the walls first. Check at your hardware store, they make a solution for this.
