World War 1 was not labed as such until after the second world war. Until then it was "The Great One" or "The war the end all wars" Then the second one did not start off with the world. It started off just Germany and Poland. Then quickly England and France were in it. Then Russia got involved. Then a few years later the U.S. came in and then Winston Churchill was the first to give it the name World War 2. This was in an address in early '42.

sorry this war in Iraq will never be seen as a world war as only national military on national military wars are counted in this way. This is at best a regular war fought using guerrilla tactics not a multi-national war though there are several nations involved the declared combatants are all on the same side with the exception of militia groups and material support from Syria,Iran and Saudi Arabia. In time this will turn into a region wide war between the major religions of Sunni and Shite. This will not include Christians except in the protection of oil facilities.

World War One- known as the "Great War" or the "War to end all wars" during its time and World War One afterwards.
World War Two- no name during the war I could find... known as the 'Second greatest mistake' after a joke calling World War One the first one.
In order to qualify as a World War... the prerequisites are pretty simple..... either the fight ash to involve most of the nations or the battles have to occur all over the world.

the Iraq war could not be WWIII as it is many neutral countries and a few countries occupation one quickly defeated country. technically there is no war just an occupation since bush said mission accomplished. unless Russia and china suddenly decided to back the terrorists this will no become a world war (that would never happen) just a really bad civil war.

There is not enough countries for this to become a world war, unless iran and north korea gets involved and the US and UK kick thier asses also
