I guess you already know the answer to your question...eating toothpaste isn't just bad for him, it's dangerous to his health especially if it contains flouride (fluoride interferes with enzyme systems, damaging many organ systems of the body).
As a parent you have to decide carefully what your child eats. And at three years old, why should he have his "usual" burgers and pizza as part of his diet? Feed him healthy foods like vegetables, fruits, etc. Anyone can learn to love a healthy diet, especially if you start him on it pretty young.

You can't be serious!! This has to be a joke one! I have never heard of anything so appalling! Surely you know it's not good for him! You refer to his usual diet as burgers and pizza .. at the age of three that is disgusting! His diet is going to kill him!! Is that what you want for your sons future? He should be eating fresh fruit, veggie, salads and dairy products!! Where is he getting his vitimins from? Toothpaste will eventually give him ulcers, and the burgers and pizza will clog his arteries ..... I foresee a future filled with health problems. Hide the toothpaste and feed him a healthy balanced diet!

some toothpastes will say to only let a child swallow the amount that will cover the brush.... toothpaste is a drug......... i'm assuming it's childrens toothpaste, tho... if it's the mint stuff we use it could kill him....
if his choices are toothpaste sandwiches, burgers, and pizza at 3 years old, maybe you should try feeding him some veggies or cereal, fruits, pastas...... get him going on good food and get his mind off the toothpaste. and besides, you're his parent, you're in charge, not him. tell him no.
besides, that's disgusting.

My sister's boyfriend sold home cleaning products and I used to steal the toothpaste samples and snarf them. I have to say I have really good teeth now! It didn't do me any harm...at most it might make him sick, and then he'll stop on his own.
It's better than eating kibble out of the dog's dish, another behaviour I have seen in toddlers!

He must be a very talented 3 year old to get up in the night and prepare himself sandwiches! Enroll him in Mensa!
And get him to lay off the toothpaste, it's definitely not good for him and I am sure you know that already, you don't need to ask!

As a parent I made it a rule never to buy a medicine or tooth paste that my kids would want to eat. Mainly to keep them from trying to incorpate them in to thier diets.
try to replace the tooth paste he eats with a similar tasting candy jel you can make this easliy with cornstarch and flavoring
2 tbsp of cornstartch
1 cup of water
1 tsp of flavor extract
1/4 cup of powder sugar
combind all in a pot and bring to boil until the subtance is clear
and begins to thinkin
add more cornstarch to get desired thickness
this will create a jel that is harmless and eatable.
Plus replace the tooth paste he brushes with, with a less taste one like a baking soda based. or even have him brush from now on with baking soda and make him rinse 4-5 times.
I hope this helps

i think the food you offer could be just as unhealthy. cook him something like shepherds pie's and include more vegetables in his diet and keep door locks on the doors to you kitchen and bathroom or put a stairgate across his bedroom door if you have to!
maybe as a treat if it's the texture he likes offer him angel delight, or rice pudding

Ha, another "pretending to be a stupid parent" question to go with the one about getting your 3 month old's ears pierced... very good, keep them coming.

Ah, my toothpaste years. Great days they were - minty fresh all day long.
I moved onto germolene after while but, well, it wasn't the same.
