Licenses are not required in the county where I live.

I think it would be an excellent idea if the licensing required the spaying and neutering of cats before it could be obtained. Some counties have "limits" on the number of cats or dogs a person may have on one property. Those are seldom enforced for cats, more frequently for dogs.

It does give authorities the right to intervene if the animals are not living in a healthy environment with adequate food and necessary medical attention. Those "abuses" have to be reported for the authorities to intervene.

I live in Ohio, USA, and my city does NOT require cat licensing. With as many feral cats as we have in this world, I think it would be impossible to do such a thing. Of course, with our government, anything is possible.

My dog license is $15 US per year. I cannot imagine that a cat license, if one should exist, would be more than that.

Good luck!

My city in Illinois requires you register your cats. It costs $10 for nuetered or spayed or $15 for not. It was passed because we have a problem with feral cats. But I feel that people who love their cats enough to take them to the vet do not turn them out. I live in a university city and the students get pets and when they leave some of them just turn the pet out.
