I have looked everywhere in the Media (Newspapers, TV, etc) and I can not find this War so many are speaking about. The only thing I have found is Tom DeLay and a group of Right Wingers crying over other religions wanting equal freedom to display their religious icons in public. And Rush Limbaugh crying over a cross that was taken down in S Calif.
Where is this WAR on Christmas/Christians in a country that is damn near 90% Christian????????? Are you all fighting with one another? Blaming the ACLU is hysterical as many of them claim to be Christian as well.

I have read Bill O'Rielly's rant. It was absurd.
As for turning it around, who is dictating???? No one of that 10% is dictating ANYTHING. part of the 90% is saying there is a War, but the rest of world just can't seem to find where these battles are even taking place.
I'm beginning to think it's all in their minds.

Spiritwalker (you do know that's the meaning of the word Shaman, right?) - this is in direct reference to people in America saying that there is a War on Christmas in America.
Darfur is not against Christianity alone... it's a civil war. Iraq is not a Religious War, it's a War on Terrorism... now, unless you are saying that Christianity is, in essence, Terrorism, then maybe there is a war on Christianity there... but seems to me it's Political, not Religious.

Derek, that's actually pretty funny. Considering the picture for this news article has a huge Christmas Tree in front of the White House.

The vast majority of Christians are not so selfish that they want everyone to ignore that Christmas is not the only holiday being celebrated at this time of the year. The Religious Right created this fictional "War on Christmas" as a fundraising stunt, and Bill O'Reilly has fanned the flames to boost his ratings.

How about it is not about Christ. If it was a religious holiday I would be okay about it. It is a pagan holiday turned into a christian holiday. It is really a substitute for winter solstace. Apparently Christ's birthday is in november not december. If it was about religion that would be a huge improvement. If feels like it has become pagan again with Santa Claus and all the junk is stores. I went to austrailia one year and christmas is much better there because it is not comericalized.

You're right. There is no war. It's just a way to get some of the Christians riled up. Even when there has been the tradition of using the "holiday" instead of "Christmas," it's getting changed to "Christmas" to appease the "outraged" groups.
Christianity also has a heritage of veneration of martyrs. When Christianity was new, a lot of the followers were put to death, so the HR department made a big push to celebrate martyrdom. This worked great to keep the religion alive; however, when the Christians were no longer persecuted this admiration of martyrdom did no go away. Instead, monasteries were created, but I guess the "war" is what this generation has chosen for their martyrs.
What's funny is that all of these Christmas traditions have existed long before Christianity even existed, but they were just altered to fit the new religion. Christians at first did not partake in any of the Pagan festivities, but it grew on them. Often, the "War on Christmas" has been waged by Christian against Christmas because it is "too Pagan."
If you ask me, it's a War on the Winter Solstice!

What is wrong with saying happy holidays??? All it means is that you are wishing each and every person who has a religous/ethnic holiday this time to have a good holiday, and a great new years as well. I think we should wish happiness for people regardless of the day being December 25, February 24, or August 11.

well 90 percent of americans are christian by heritage, as in, they celebrate christmas, but alot of the christians in this country arent practicing christians. I suppose they mean how you can't wish people merry christmas in some places, (even though, really, you still can..)

It's really a figure of speach. And to turn your statistic around, why should a country that is 90% Christian, allow 10% to dictate what can and cannot be done in this country?

i'm a Christian. I don't see this war around me in any great degree. If anything, it just makes you realize not everyone celebrates Christmas...as in our Jewish business associates have different traditions...etc...so it should be recoginized as part of the season too.

There's no War on Christmas.
It's a ploy to make the religious right's childish temper-tantrums look like they are defending their faith from attack.

We would be a lot better off if Christians learned the truth about Christmas.....it is NOT a true christian holiday...it is pagan!! But some chrsitians refuse to follow what God says in the Bible about worshiping Him. Easter is the same thing..it is pagan worship!
