My son is sick again, running 100.4 temp this morning, and he just had a cold 2 weeks ago and the week before that he had a flu (vomiting and diarhea really bad) and the week before that he had a cold. Prior to that he was not sick for 5 whole months and it was GREAT! but before that he was sick all the time. How often are your kids sick?

From the time my son was 8 months old until he was 20 months old he had an ear infection about every 2-3 weeks. I went to doctors and specialist and they could not find anything wrong with his ears. They told me that he didn't need tubes or anything. Then one day he stopped having ear infections. I know what you are going through, whether you are a working mom or a mom who is going to school and you have to call in yet again wondering if they will fire you or a SAHM who just wants her baby to get better so you can get you everyday routine done and just be able to play with your baby. I didn't think the ear infections would ever end but they did. Most of the time though once they have reached 18 months children will generally have fewer sicknesses. My advice is call the doctor to see if anything other than handwashing and good hygine can prevent your baby from getting sick so much. Good Luck and I hope your baby gets well soon.

First off, how old is your child? A fever of 100.4 is enough for you to take your baby to the doctor if he is a newborn. Temperature that is seemingly low is very serious for newborns.

Being a sickly baby is not normal, though it isn't abnormal either. It just depends on whether you have your baby in a daycare.. or exposed to a lot of people.

My son only gets sick 2x a year. But then again, my grandmother used to tell me that I was pretty much in the hospital all the time the first year of my life - and this goes for my husband too.

This is very excessive. Have you taken him to the Dr with any of these illnesses? He could have an immune deficiency. I have 3 boys ages 12, 11,and 3. My 11 and 3 yr old were both preemies (3 months early) and they never even got sick that much. If you have your son in daycare this could also contribute to the illnesses. It could be that the provider is not cleaning toys and surroundings well enough and if they are not strict about parents bringing sick children to daycare then this to could cause your son to be getting ill. Good luck and I hope he gets better soon.

It does seem excessive, is he in daycare?

I would just emphasize washing hands a lot, especially during this time of year when everyone has some kind of virus and mom's are taking their little bit sick kids to play at the mall or whatever.

Also, make sure he's getting a good multivitamin, to keep his overall energy and immunity high. Good nutrition is often the second line of defense, behind good sanitation.

Sorry he's sick again, I know it's hard on both of you. God bless and hope he's well before Christmas.

Well first of all, you don't really say how old your son is. And also, is he in daycare? For most children, especially those in daycare, they are usually consistently sick for the first 2-3 years of their life, and you are stuck wondering if it is ever going to stop. I know, I have been there. I thought my son was ALWAYS sick, but there little immune systmes are trying to get strong and you have to think...........as frustrating as it can be, would you rather him be sick like this now, or when he gets into grade school, where missing school will count against him. Good luck and don't worry, it will get better.........

It's around the season where colds, viruses, and the flu are going around, give your son some vitamins and get them to drink plenty of Orange Juice so he can build up is immune system. Also, teach him to wash his hands a ot, this way he'll eliminate some germs for school and playing. If this is constantly happening year around, take him to your doctor's and explain to him his sickness, he could be allergy's.

I would talk to your dr about it. And also keep a record of when he is sick and how long it last. He may have a period where his immune system drops a little which allows him to get sick.
