One of my roommates refuses to take responsibility for her dog. It started out pooping on our beds and then peeing on mine. Then it moved on to peeing on the living room futon. We made her buy a new one and then it peed on that. Now she's trying to blame my cats . It definitely smells like dog urine and not cat, there is a distinct difference. She is hardly ever home to play with it and take care of it, leaving us to take it out because we feel sorry for it. How can we make her get rid of the dog, find it a better home etc?

You most definitely need to do something. I would start by demanding if she is not home to watch the dog it must be in a crate. Second cat pee smells so much worse than dog pee. Make sure its not your cat getting pissy about a dog. Cats are more known to pee on beds and furniture than dogs.

You should sit down with your roommate and have a serious discussion about this. You should address concerns and questions about her responsibilities with the dog. She is also using your cates as an easy escape goat instead of facing reality that she is irresponsible. If she doesn't shape up tell her that you feel more comfortable adopting the dog out to some responsible dog owners and/or placing the dog in the shelter for a home where someone can adopt out the dog and have time to spend with the dog and train the dog.

Also if your roommate refuses to allow the dog to be adopted out and she keeps the dog then you should look on the lease to see if it allows pets, if not then she is breaking the lease (if she is on the lease). Or perhaps she needs to move elsewhere or maybe you might need to find a new place to live.

No one should have a pet if they can't take care of it. It is hard for you guys to pick up her slack, but she is also being cruel to the dog by not careing for it properly. It's pottying everywhere because it hasn't been taught any better. That is her fault, not the dogs. Maybe you should keep the dog, train it, and get rid of the room mate.

Talk to her about it and tell her, either she takes care of the dog, or someone goes. (Depending who own's/leases the place) Any time she's not there & the dog is running around, close it in her room. Maybe when She's cleaning up dog poo/pee from HER bed, she'll wake up about it. Plus, that will prove to her it isn't your cats causing the problem.

Tell her the dog goes or she goes; call animal control and report it as a stray; take it to the humane society; contact a rescue
