No. If the Iraqis wanted us to stop killing civilians, then the terrorists should stop dressing like civilians. It is hard to obey the Geneva convention when your enemies are violating it.
We should give them a slap-on-the-wrist, ask them politely to try not to do it again. This way, the world will see that victory is our goal, not just making our country look good.

In every incident where an Iraqi civilian is killed or injured by an American service-member there is a formal investigation into the circumstances. In the vast majority of the incidents this investigation clears the service-member of wrongdoing.
If the investigation reveals that the service-member violated the ROE or committed a criminal act the matter is then pursued as a criminal investigation.
I have observed this system in operation and feel that it is fair. It provides accountability and assures that troops that if they are in 'the right' they will be backed by their CoC. it also puts the troops on notice that they remain responsible and accountable for violating the rules.

It depends on the circumstances. There is nothing wrong with defending oneself or others, or taking out legitimate military targets.
But the situation in Iraq should not be a free pass for psychopaths to go around assaulting and murdering innocents - and those that do so soil the honor of everyone who ever put on a uniform and served his country. And those are the people who should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I have to disagree with you. I was in Iraq last year. The typical Iraqi is just like us. They are friendly and hospitable. They are not anti-American or anti-Christian, contrary to what you may hear.
If Americans commit atrocities against Iraqis, and are not punished, how do you think the Iraqis will take this? How would you take it if they were here, and they were abusing and killing Americans?
They are people, just like we are. When you put a uniform on, it doesn't give you the right to hide behind it, and kill people indiscriminately. When American military commit crimes against unarmed civilians, or helpless prisoners, they tarnish the honor of the rest of us. We demand that they be punished, because we don't want to be associated with them.
I thank you for your support of the US military, but it is no help to have us associated with people who are doing wrong.

YES!!! IDIOT it is essential to maintain discipline in the ranks without it we become just a bunch of yahoo's shooting at everything that moves. When you do that you give ALL Iraqi groups a common enemy YOU! This is not the case right now as we do prosecute those who violate the rules of engagement or break the military laws known as the UCMJ. We present ourselves as better than everyone to really be better than everyone we have to hold ourselves accountable for our actions or we become just another bunch of thugs throwing our weight around. Is that how you want the US military to be seen?

I agree. Good for you!!! The idea that we should prosecute soldiers in war for killing is like handing out speeding tickets at the Indy 500, it doesn't make sense. An easier answer would be to nuke the Arab bastards until they glow in the dark, and then be done with the problem

Collateral deaths are one thing, murder is quite another. In all wars ever fought, there have been the odd individuals who went far beyond the acceptable boundaries. Incidental deaths occur in battle when war is waged.
The other deaths and criminal activities you may be referring to have to be prosecuted. During VietNam, there were incidents where a few men went beyond acceptable limits and were punished by law. No different here.

I think the ones who are getting prosecuted are cases where the soldiers were clearly murdering the innocent and not participating in any military action.

as much as i disagree with the slaughtering of inncocent people i would have to say no. largely because most of these people are not innocent. our soldiers are fighting for their lives over there. i would not feel comfortable saying they should be prosecuted unless i felt i would not commit these acts. and i cannot say i wouldn't. i would probably do whatever i had to do to keep myself and my friends alive. i feel this is what they are doing. surviving.

No Why dont we prosecute the pres for sending the US over there. We were there to get Saddam. Once we got saddam we should've packed our sh&t up and got out of the country and went looking for the idiot who sent 4 planes into our bldgs.I would use as my defense ( like Jimbo and Ned do on South Park) I'd say " there coming right at us". Just like our cops do on a daily basis. The " perp" turned and started coming towards me so I had to shoot him.
