I bought this huge turkey....I swear it's an ostrich (hehe). Anyway, I sat it out yesterday in my fridge to thaw and thought "uh oh". I don't think it is going to be completely thawed by Sat morning. If it isn't, what can I do to thaw it out safely? Thanks!

Put it in a sink of cool water. Just leave it there until it's thawed, changing the water frequently. If you leave it there all day today, and over night, your turkey should be thawed by Saturday morning. Place it back in the fridge as soon as you think it's thawed out. Generally it takes three to four days to thaw a large bird in the fridge.

I go to Culinary School. We learn this stuff. Don't put anything warm on the turkey. Either thaw it in the fridge like you were doing-takes 3-4 days, or if you put it in the sink, cool running water, no warmer than 70 degrees, just not warm or you will put the turkey in the "danger zone" and that's where bacteria and stuff will grow the most. Then, refridgerate until you use it.

I found this web page for you. If you still need to thaw out Mr. Turkey the morning of, take a warm towel and place it on top that will also help.
