I have a cake recipe that calls for 1/8 tsp. of ground mace. I would probably never use it again. Is there anything else I could use in its place. It is so expensive to use just once. The other ingredients are: White cake mix, van. pudding, nonalc. eggnog, veg. oil, eggs and nutmeg.

Mace is just the "membrane" around the nutmeg nut. I would just pass on the mace since the nutmeg should be adequate.

Mace is the outer fleshy coating of the nutmeg, it is a bit more pronounced but is the best in any way to compare with mace, when I worked in Jamaica, we had a nutmeg tree on the property along with an allspice or they call it pimento, nutmeg, papaya and a flower bush popular at Xmas for amkea punch called sorrel, big red flowers you use to make a tradtional Xmas pick me up.

try allspice or cinnamon or even pumpkin pie spice, that has several ingredients. I think you might even be able to leave it out and not hurt the taste of your cake.
Bon Appitit!!~~~
