First off, its your friends daughter, NOYB
Secondly,
SHES ONLY TEN... back off the weight thing.
For goodness sakes, what are you teaching this child?
Isn't it bad enough she is bombarded with pictures of unhealthy waifs like nicole ritchie and paris hilton...
Please, you can inadvertently cause an eating disorder if you or her mother discuss weight with her.
BTW... 5'1" and 104... shes fine, shes still growing and her body is probably getting ready to start her menses.

The key to answering this question is the Body Mass Index, or BMI, which relates your weight to your height and sex. Here are the results for this girl, given the information you provided:

A 10 year old (female) child who is 104.0 pounds and 5 feet and 1 inches tall, has a body mass index of 19.7, which is at the 83.2th percentile and is considered to be a healthy weight.

BMI isn't perfect, but I'd say she's very healthy.

If you lose 10 pounds then you will be in your normal BMI. You can lose the weight easily by doing any type of cardio 3 times a week for 30 min. Also watching what you eat may help.

Put your forefinger and thumb around her wrist - are her bones big or small? My son is 5'1" and 105lbs, but the bones in his arms and legs are bigger in diameter than mine. The doctor tells us he is healthy and not overweight for the mass of his bones.

The downside to being a big kid is that he has to go ahead and workout like an adult - indoor circuit training, jogging, weight lifting, etc. He's the only 5th grader I've ever seen with a 6 pack. If he didn't workout like this than he would be gaining bad weight.

It's all in the bones.

She is healthy. But you still might want to talk to a doctor. I am 5'4", and I weigh 115lbs. I'm 18 and my doctor says I'm healthy. Just don't let her gain too much weight too fast. Then that won't be healthy. But by the sounds of it, she's healthy.
