if you really want land and have decent credit you won't need a down payment. If you do need a down payment it will range from 10-25 percent if your score is anywhere close to decent. i would suggest a min of 15 acres for hunting anywhere up to 50 make sure there is a water source on or near your property and not alot of others. If you have a water sourceon your property put ample cover around it. Little .5 acre food plots can be good to as attractants in those crucial fall months. But if you are just going to put up a stand and rough it then I would have to recommend hunting on a farm, many farmers welcome hunters. Just drive along a small farm road and when you see a decent looking piece of prop go to the owner and ask if it is a no repeat. You should do this atleast a month before the season begins so you have time to scout and hang your stand and let the woods settle as well. Good Luck

Most of the time it is 10%, and since PRIME hunting land can go for $4000 an acre you would be looking at $400 per acre

why dont you just lease hunting rights from a farmer or land owner, way cheaper, and if game leaves your not stuck with useless land

This is about as useless a question as the ones that ask what is legal or not for them to do hunting. I guess people can pick up a DNR guide at Walmart and check the rules and regulations.
And you, check with local realtors to see what is selling and for how much.
I now know why we have velcro shoes.
