I'm Graduating basic at Ft. Jackson this January. going to AIT in Ft Lee after that. Has anyone been there who can tell me what it will be like? Are different companies treated better than others? Like here in Ft. Jackson our company is the group with a bunch of slackers and punks so we get smoked alot, while other companies get more freedom. Is it like that there too? Also, can we have cell phones at ait to use on the weekends, and after the training day? What about laptops? Also, how do you find out if you qualify for the EarmyU laptop?

It has been a few years since I have been to Lee, but AIT there is not bad. AIT is a lot like being in college only with a military feel. Our class and platoon was almost like fraternity, we had a hand sign, hand shake, and our platoon cadences. The female soldiers in our group were like a sorority.

Remember, you are there for the purpose to learn your Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). You will be able to use your laptop, I am not sure if the hookups are in your barracks or not, but they do have internet cafes.

Your day will consist of morning PT.
Breakfast
Go to class
Lunch
Back to class
Whatever evening stuff they have for you (Army Stuff)

Weekends, I don't know if they still do weekend passes or not. As far as I know, civilian clothes are not athorized for AIT students. It is not as tight as basic, but there are still rules and restrictions and you will have a drill sergeant. Despite what rumors you hear, no one company is better or worse then another, you are still at Ft Lee with the same rules. Unless you are permanent party.

Good Luck, Hooah!
