So, this summer, someone stole my debit card and spent almost $200 with it. Bank of America told me that they would credit my account the $200 if I brought in all the paperwork.

However, I was wondering--if something did something like this again, do you think that Bank of America would still credit my account?

That's why I'm scared to take it up with them because what if someone does this again and takes a lot more money from account. I'll be screwed then.

Yes, they will credit you again if it happens. They know that card theft is rampant these days.

But still, make sure your careful. Always hide your pin and don't use your card inside gas stations. Pay at the pump.

It happened to me. I had used my card inside a gas station. I received a call from my bank on a holiday a few years ago. They told me that they had canceled my bank card because they thought that someone had copied it. I wasn't bothered about it because I had no money in the account at the time. I had just pulled out the remain money. So I didn't loose anything. But, they would have given me my money back if it had been stolen. All I had to do was go to the bank and get a new card. Also, now I never use my card inside places like gas stations. If I don't have any cash on me, I pay at the pump. It's also faster.

When someone steals your identity, it is an ongoing problem. It never ends. Your identity is out there for use, and oftentimes thieves let your account lie dormant awhile to allay suspicions and then reactivate it. Bank of America should take care of the situation every time that something happens IF you can prove it was NOT you. Be sure to read the fine print because they definitely have ways around paying you. For ATM losses, you have to report within 2 business days of discovery to limit your losses to $50, after 2 days, but less than 60, your losses can be up to $500, after 60 days of the loss of card, your financial loss is unlimited. If the theft goes to credit cards, etc. your liability can go much higher. If you want to know more, feel free to email.

As long as you can prove you have done everything to protect your card and the identity theft is beyond your control, the Bank cannot refuse to pay you back.

Always be careful with your cards. Make sure no one watching you when you enter you PIN number. Shred all paper with sensitive information on it and check your credit report from your credit bureau at least once a year to make sure no one is using your identity.
