My dentist says that i'm beginning to get gingivits. I use Listerine mouthwash and brush my teeth 2x a day but they're still getting bigger than they are supposed to be. She said that my gums needed to be stimulated? Does brushing not stimulate? Also i need an alternative to flossing because that just isn't working for me and I don't really have the time for that. suggestions?

Bleeding gums is a sign of Chronic Gingivitis and the main cause is the build up of plaque and bacteria. One way to relieve the pain is to gargle with warm salty water, this will act as an antiseptic and ease the pain, Corsodyl mouthwash is also very good as it's designed for gum disease. You will never be able to get the gums to re-attach completely but you can help stop the process from spreading. Try investing in some Disclosing Tablets, these little tablets will stain your teeth and gums and will hi light the areas that you miss whilst brushing, an electric toothbrush with a built in timer is also very useful, as the recommended time for brushing the teeth is 2 minutes. The oral hygiene needs to be of a very high standard, brushing with fluoride toothpaste, flossing and using a mouthwash for tartar control will help!

The direct cause of your problem is PLAQUE PLAQUE PLAQUE. It causes gum inflammation which will swell and overgrow as a result. The only way to solve your problem is to remove the plaque. Brushing removes the plaque and massages the gum to improve blood circulation.

Brushing is more difficult with braces. The only thing you can do is brush 3 times A day, each time for 3 minuets, then FLOSS. There are alternatives for flossing, like small devices using water jets to clean the area. Mouth washes are not really helpful, except those made of cholorohixidine which causes tooth discolouration and taste alteration, so people tend to avoid it.

after you maintain good oral hygiene, extra gum can be removed with a very simple surgery.

Poor you!

My brother wore braces for about2 years and his gums grew over his teeth. He had to get it chiseled!

Your Dentist should know better! What has brushing your teeth got to do with anything???

You need a othordontist or a peridontist that will perform this proceedure where you gums will be chiseled hence: more teeth and less gums.

The proceedure is a little pricey but it is totally worth it!
Maybe its about time you switched and got an othordontist!

Goodluck bro!

It's a pain, but get one of those old school toothbrushes that have a rubber pick on the end ... they are specifically to massage your gums. then, give it 10 minutes a day or so. Good luck.

try massaging your gums, but i think it would be less time consuming to just floss. not flossing is what is causing your gingivits, so I really think you need to make flossing a priority
