the whole point of christianity, and islam as far as I can see, is not so much to get to heaven, but to be "saved".....saved from what? Hell. Hell is the main engine driving the christian religion.
They are good because god's gonna get them if they aren't. He'll put them in his giant people oven forever and ever, amen.

Most of you seem to agree with me. Interesting. There's nothing wrong with self-preservation, it just casts your relationship with god in a whole new light.
Thanks!

No person is good.
Laugh it up, you're only hurting yourself. Seek God and quit being a clown.

No, I'm good because I want to be and its the right thing. I accepted God because its the true religon. And really, even if most Christians are getting saved so they don't go to Hell, whats wrong with that? I'm sure people of Islam try to do their best not to go to Hell too. Its a main goal in every religon to get to Heaven.

Christians are born of God, reborn spiritually. Whole; body, soul & spirit, again. Restored in relationship with Father God through faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.

Christians are ex sinners (can't abide in sin as a comfortable sinful habit) who are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, so inherit heaven. Once one has believed in their heart in the Lord Jesus Christ, they put on Christ Righteousness. So what they do or don't do will not make them more or less righteous. They are good because they are made the righteousness of Christ.

Though, being a Christian doesn't mean we won't sin. And God is a Father who disciplines.

Far too many on this forum have a totally wrong idea of Heaven and Hell, is it because they have not been given the proper teaching or do they just have a stab in the dark?
God does not rejoice in a sinner going to Hell for He proves this by giving us all every opportunity to avoid Hell while we are alive.
It is we who choose Hell when we reject God and by this state that we do not want to live with Him,so where does this leave us?

No one will be rewarded with heaven based on good works or being 'good'. And if the perspective is fear or self-preservation, that's incorrect too - it's in realizing that we are in need of the Savior who died for our sins, made the sacrifice for us so that we aren't banished to hell - God cannot stand sin, it's not in Him. But if we live a life of rules and regulations, a checklist, then where is our heart? Just trying to get by, that's not what it's about - it's about a changed mind, a renewed mind that then leads to a desire to live and server our Creator - just as God has commanded us to live.

Obedience is better then sacrifice,Christians live a life in submission to Gods authority out of knowing they have been loved, because of Christs dying for their sin. They realize they fall short, and of course they do not want hell for eternity. So they make a choice to follow Christ daily.Yes heaven is a reward that they await, but Christianity is a constant choice,to serve him this side of heaven.

We cannot say who will get paradise and who hell-fire, this is for God to decide on the Day of Judgment. All we know is the dwellers of the fire are those who associate partners with God, disbelieve they will be thrown in hell-fire.

[005:072] Surely, they have disbelieved who say: "God is the Messiah ['Îsâ (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary)." But the Messiah ['Îsâ (Jesus)] said: "O Children of Israel! Worship God, my Lord and your Lord." Verily, whosoever sets up partners (in worship) with God, then God has forbidden Paradise to him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong doers) there are no helpers.

[005:073] Surely, disbelievers are those who said: "God is the third of the three (in a Trinity)." But there is no Ilâh (god) (none who has the right to be worshipped) but One (God). And if they cease not from what they say, verily, a painful torment will befall on the disbelievers among them.

being saved from hell is being saved from our sin. There is no good in us apart from God- that is why He sent His Son into the world so that we will be saved from sin. Our sins sends us to Hell, if not forgiven through the shed blood of Jesus on the cross.

If you are led by the Spirit of God, you will not carry out the desires of the corrupt flesh. The fruit of the tree will reveal whether it is good or evil. We love because He (Christ) first loved us. Read the Gospel of John.

Hi Jack, that's a good one. That's what we see mostly in our world, but that's not what God wants it to be.

He wanted us to worship Him for who he is, not for what we want from Him or for what he can do for us. Though he can do those things, but that's not what he desire.

I don't think HE is really happy with people being good because they want to be safe. He even get excited when we acknowledge him when we are not in a good state, not because he can save us but because HE IS GOD.
