All depends on the type of cirrohsis, if its in the beginning stage you can catch it and have a transplant hopefully and live for a long time but if its not, cirrhosis is basically dead tissue that does not do the function of the liver and without that lots of harmful toxins are moving around in your body and i would say not long but there are always miracles

Cirrohsis means "scarring", nothing more. IF you stop the activity that stops the scarring, AND you have enough liver left to function adaquately, you can expect a normal life. However, if you keep DRINKING, you'll don't have a whore's chance in a free-for-all. Soooooooo, put the plug in the jug, and LEAVE IT THERE!!

The liver is the most resilent of all the organs. Even if it is 75% damaged, the liver can repair itself in time. People with scarred livers need to take care of themselves (primarily by not drinking alcohol) and they should be fine.

I know a woman who has had it for ten years, but she stopped drinking. Also, she's been taking milk thistle which is an herb, and is the recommended remedy in Europe for cirrhosis. It comes in capsule form, and you can buy it at Wal-Mart. Fortunately, the liver is the one organ we have that can heal itself--at least to a point--if we take care of it. This woman is working now, and you can't tell there's a thing wrong with her.

My father had this and he had to have a liver transplant. He had a nice recovery and lived for about 12 years before they found out he had lung cancer. But without the transplant I don't think you can live for many years.

That depends. My brother died the 13th with it but he wouldn't do what the Dr's. said do except he did quit drinking. He was 52 and had drank about 40 yrs of his life.
If you have it do what you need,it is a horrible death to die of the end stages. 2 yrs was how long my brother had after he found out but I would say he had it longer than that.

jonh s answer is right on! eliminate alcohol, cigarettes, tylenol, motrin....i could go on and on. best bet, look at your side effects of your medicines (esp. over the counter), if is says: may cause liver damage, then don't take it. i've seen folks live for years. good luck, i have blessed this message.
