It can be right afterwards.

I had a momma and her babies and rescued a young dog that had not been altered yet. Did not think a thing of it and got him neutered later in the week. When momma and babies went to get altered a few weeks later they found she had gotten pregnant and that was the only unaltered male in the house. It was less than a month after she gave birth. Yes she had an abortion!

It depends on the dog's regular heat cycle. Should be 4 months, but can vary anywhere from 2-8 months after the pups are born.

Make sure that you do NOT breed her for the cycle following a litter. This can wear down her body and cause a lot of health problems to both her and any pups that she has.

It will vary greatly between individual dogs.

GENERALLY, the female will come back into heat about 3 to 5 months after she weans her puppies.

I have had females come in heat within 2 months of weaning a litter and others that would wait a full 7 months before the next heat.

I slow wean starting at 8 weeks and continue until 10 weeks of age. By slow wean, I allow the mom free access to her puppies, but have a short gate up to prevent the puppies from getting to her when they want, the mom can jump the short gate and allows them to nurse only when she wants them to.

Depends on the breed. Usually after her milk dries up and puppies no longer feed off her, usually around 6-8 weeks. If the male kills the pups, that will send her right back into a heat.
