Well, the worst is tae kwoon do. But the best would be the one you enjoy training in. Except TKD of course because its nothing more then ballet that calls itself a martial art.

the best kind of martial art is the kind you don't have acess to because you can't purchase or create WMD's on your own.
The next would be a weapon style for a weapon you do or can have acess to (gun, knife, stick).
The best for unarmed fighting would be the gym that trains the best and most realistic and best prepares you for an actual unarmed fight. and they train with resistance against fully resisting opponents. Generally you won't find this at the average TKD school you will find training according to some kind of "sportative" rules which don't carryover well to an actual fight.
"kung fu" or chinese martial arts have a similar problem in that most of them don't train with resistance and place emphasis on forms and many of those don't even teach you how to properly generate power because they never learned it themselves.
There are good CMA teachers out there, but unless you live in a big city you have a better chance of finding life on saturn than you do finding a good cma teacher in a small town.
I'm sure there are good TKD schools out there as well somewhere- there has to be one somewhere that teaches realistically but I'm not exactly looking for one and have no interest in TKD.

kempo! definately kempo. because it gives ppl a chance to experience different kinds of karate. it also teaches the parts of the body that are most vulnerable to certain strikes. i've been taking kempo for the last 6 years and i can honestly say that it has been an awesome experience...if u are thinking about taking up a form of karate, i would definately suggest kempo.
