I quit 2 months, 1 week and 4 days ago. The most important part to being able to accomplish this is to WANT to quit...if you really don't want to do it you won't. Don't try to do it for someone else, do it for yourself. Also tell the people that matter to you that you are planning on doing this. Warn them in advance that you are going to be a crab a s s and tell them that in the long run you will be much better off. Tell them that you will need encouragement from them.
What I did was I chewed the Nicorette Gum which helped with the nicotine fits and I ate a lot of sun flower seeds which helped with the "keeping your mouth busy" aspect. I downloaded this free program called SilkQuit Version 2 which tells me how long it has been since I smoked my last cigarette, the amount of money I have saved, the amount of cigarettes I have not smoked and most importantly the amount of my life I have saved. (5 Days and 10 minutes so far.) I also went out and bought myself a gift as a reminder of the money I saved...now every time I sit down and watch my 42" plasma TV I am thankful that I don't smoke anymore.
After you quit you will start to smell things you haven't smelled in years and taste things you haven't tasted in years. Before a pizza was just food but now it is like a taste explosion in my mouth...I can actually taste the sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms and onions. You will be able to walk up a flight of stairs without sucking for air. Nor will you have to go outside in the dead of winter and freeze your tail off just to satisfy your addiction. Don’t let smoking control your life...whoop it’s a s s and take back your life.
Good Luck

I am now 1 year quit. One of the best things that I was told by a quitting consultant was to inhale deeply through you nose and breathe out through you mouth for 10 to 15 seconds when you get the craving. I wouldnt have ever thought that it would work but it really does help. When you inhale deeply through your nose it releases dopamine in your brain. This is the same chemical that is released when you smoke a cigarette. Try it! It will work!
Good Luck with Quitting!

So far, I've quit for two months. I just let the cravings come and go. I just don't react to them. Usually it will last only for a couple of minutes and then it is gone for hours. Let it be known, however, that this is the fourth time I've tried to quit. The longest I held out for was 3 1/2 years. Got stressed out and hoped back on the choo choo train. Let's hope this time it's for good. Smoking is too damn expensive.

I know somebody who payed £60 to be hypnotised to give up smoking. The deal was "if it doesn't work, you get your money back". The hypnotism did work however, and the guy hasn't had a cigarette for around 2 years now. Why not see if there is something like this in your area?
If not, nicorette patches, nicorette gum and will power may also help.

Pick something up that will keep your hands busy like a stress ball or a ring that spins. Anything! It will help the psychological aspect to quitting.
Good luck!!
