My dog is a 7 year old cockersspanial (no idea how to spell that lol). One of his eyes is good, normal. But the other one looks swollen kind of, the eye looks like its half way up where it should be, and towards where the eye was is all redish. I mean the eye isnt up in his head or anything but it just looks really bad to me. Someone told me it was just a cold or something, but is it anything I should get checked out at a vet? Whatdu think it is?

Get a warm wash cloth and wash the eye. It could be something in the eye or an infection, so you might want to consider a trip to a Vet. also.

Sounds like your pup might have cherry eye, or some type of injury. I would definitely take it to the vet as soon as possible!

This website has some great links to pictures of cherry eyes and other eye problems that may help you understand what happened to your dog:http://vetmedicine.about.com/cs/dogdiseasese/a/dogeye.htm

In addition, check her ears. A lot of times, ear problems can drain and show in the eyes!
Good luck!

Never wait when it comes to an eye problem with any dog. Call you vet for an appointment as soon as they open. It could be anything from an infection, to a corneal ulcer, to glaucoma. Eye problems can change very quickly for the worst.

Good Luck!

here's what i think. if your dogs eye is red, swollen and has the third eyelid up, or possibly a cherry eye. most of those thing really hurt. have you ever even had something in your eye that made it hurt. eye's can be permantlly damaged very quickly and have irreversable damage to can lead to blindness. i think you need to get him to the vet! ouch, poor guy.

He could have a foreign object in his eye. Even a splinter, who knows. There are a number of different viruses and infections he could have. I'd be willing to bet he doesn't feel to good either way. It is probably time to take him to the vet, so he can feel better and you won't have to worry anymore.

Watch him closely. If he is vomiting repeatedly, he will need to go to the vet for treatment as this can cause them to get severely dehydrated and he may need xrays. Other things to watch for are refusal to eat or drink and lethargy. If he just vomited once and is okay otherwise, it's not a big deal. This happens occasionally. He probably just ate something that upset his stomach.

If you own an animal, it is your responsibility to take it to the vet when it is sick...just like when you are sick and you go to the Dr. He might be in pain...if you cant afford him, find someone who can..
