Kiss him, you will find out very quickly. I know it seems like the scariest thing in the world. But if you grow the courage. This one time, just say "what the hell" and go for it, you will find courage for everything you will ever do from now on. It will literally change your life. If you just do it, then nothing else will seem as scary as long as you live. Trust me, how ever he acts, you will be a changed person. I know of what I speak. Next time you are with him, and he laughs, pull your self close to him and kiss the man.

If you are not going to beat around the bush anymore, then why do you need an indirect way of asking him. Just ask him. "How do you feel about me?" "Do you like me?" etc....
