Benevolence is giving to help others who are not as well off as you are. (Food pantries, hunger relief, etc.) In some churches, this work is handled on a denominational (churchwide) level, so the giving to the denomination may be called benevolence as well. The benevolence committee is in charge of collecting and distributing those funds.

Hi, benevolence literally means act of kindness, charity, giving out of generosity.

When we consider it in the church, we can refer benevolence committee to the reason for choosing deacons in the Bible (Acts 6): they are to generously and accordingly give to the needy in their society. The members of this committee can also be refer to deacons.
