A spray water bottle or water pistol - sounds nasty but give him a squirt if you catch him doing stuff he's not supposed to. He will soon learn. However, this is only useful if he actually see him doing it. Perhaps you could speak to the vet for advice? Good luck - I hope your house survives!

If you get a cat it will scratch, that's what they do I'm afraid. I've had my two cats for 3 years now and when they first started scratching my wall's etc I was very annoyed. I bought countless things to try to stop it but they didn't really bother about the sprays or anything. I now just keep them out of the rooms I don't want scratched and as for the walls, all you can do is stop them when you catch them. I am now resigned to the fact that they will scratch and if you are precious about your material things then you shouldn't get an animal. The good news is as they get older they will scratch less, mine are 3 and don't scratch as much as they did.

get a place in the house that is his corner so to speak with his scratch post and bed etc and put cat nip on it and encourage him to go there as often as possible. Put a nasty scent on the places he likes to ruin the most and like someone else suggested you can spray him with a little water if yu catch him in the act. He will learn dont worry.

get a cat nip spray and spray the areas you want it to scratch. Rub orange or lemon peel on the areas you DONT want it to scratch as they hate the citrus smell. Textured wall paper is a total magnet for cats, they usually find it irresistable

there is this stuff you can buy, not sure what its called but its basically a spray that doesn't harm your cat or your home which you can spray anywhere where you don't want your cat to go and scratch and the smell will deter the cat from that area and it wont be an unpleasant smell to humans

you can always get a claw clipper from any pet shop. be careful if u choose to use it for the first time. the cat might not like it the first time but you just need to find a way of calming the cat and then doing it. dont worry it doesnt hurt the cat at all!

Put catnip on the scratching the post and it will eventually stop scratching your wallpapers.

Are you my b/f??? He also gets really angry when the cats cause any damage in the flat. We found that squirting them with water was very effective, but you can't do that when you aren't home, so it's a hard one, I have tried putting catnip on their post but their don't use it at all. You just need to persevere with their training while you are at home, and hopefully that will discourage them from their destructive behaviour while they are alone in the house.

Seal up the cat flap and every time he does something bad take him out until he's desprate to come in after a week try opening the cat flap again. Plus a sealed cat flap (with duck tape) stops them bringing mice in the summer. Sweet!
