Btu(British thermal unit) is a measure of energy while kw is a measure of power.Use the following for conversion.
1 Btu/hour [I.T.] = 0.000 293 071 kilowatt
1 Btu/minute [I.T.] = 0.017 584 264 kilowatt
1 Btu/second [I.T.] = 1.055 055 852 kilowatt
(1 Btu/hour [I.T.],1 Btu/minute [I.T.] ,1 Btu/second [I.T.] are the unit of power).

A really easy to remember conversion is that 1 kW = 1 BTU/second (the more exact value is 1.055 kW = 1 BTU/second).
You will notice that BTU and kW do not have the same units so there is no simple conversion factor (e.g., 1 inch = 2.54 cm). This is because a BTU is a measure of energy but a watt is a measure of power. Power is energy per time so any conversion will also have a unit of time involved. Most of the other answers were is BTU/hr, mine is BTU/sec. Either way, a measure of time is needed to specify a conversion.

Interesting answers! One is absolutely correct. 3412 BTU's in 1 kW, therefore divide your number of BTU's by 3412. The resulting answer is the same value but in kW.
BTU's cannot be measured soley in time. The definition of a BTU is the amount of energy to raise 1 pound of water through 1 degree farenheight. All boilers (particularly Oil fired ones) will give both BTU's and kW of input/output in the technical installation manual.

3412 BTU = 1 kwh. Note BTUs are energy, kw are power, so you must equate BTUs to kw-hours (kwh).
