My boyfriend and I have been dating for over four months and this is our first Christmas together. He says that he has a "rule" of "no jewelry for the first two years". I think it's ridiculous because what else would you give a girlfriend for Christmas? Socks and underwear? I don't think so! What does everyone think about this? Am I asking for too much?

It's only been 4 months and you want jewelery? What on earth do you want for your first year anniversary, an engagement ring?

I think you're asking for too much because a holiday stuffed animal, candy, and a card would be enough.

I wouldn't even accept jewelery if it's only been 4 months.

I am in the same spot as you are... me and my girlfriend have been together for 6 months. We have so much in common and to tell you the truth we are in love...but thats not the point, I got her a 350 dollar necklace and a pair of earrings for her birthday back in Oct. Personally i think that the jewelry fro two years rule is dumb... This is our fisrt Christmas too and i bought her some more jewlery because i love her.... Jewelry isnt the answer to love but it certainly shows you care...

4 months and already asking for jewelry is asking a lot. You two are just getting over the 2 month hump, where all the cutsey stuff is out of your system. Jewelry usually equals some kind of commitment, and not just marriage. If he knows you well enough, there is plenty to get you.

No jewelry until the engagement ring. Why are you going to drop $500 on his Christmas present, which is what he'd pay for a decent pair of diamond ear rings.

if that's how he feels then that should be ok there are many other nice gifts he can get for you. and if you care about him then it shouldn't bother you. He may have gotten burned in the past with giving a girl an expensive piece of jewelry and is afraid of it happening again don't worry about it go with the flow.

I gave my wife jewelery after only about 2 months of dating. It was a necklace that cost I think about $450. I wouldn't expect anything that is really expensive, but I would want to wait 2 years for some kind of jewelery. Stupid rule.

I dont mean this to come out wrong but are with him for his wallet and material gain or for him???

Besides a present is a present, be thankful either way!!
There are teddies, photo frames, then saucy/kinky undies, music, then weekends away days trip to a salon or beauty spa there is SO SO much this way he needs to put more thought into it. Really huni its VERY VERY early in the relationship for you to need or want jewelry!!!

I think he is right. Not socks & underwear, but just something nice (like a mixed-cd)...I think next year should be jewelry though.

Maybe he thinks you want something expensive like a promise ring. I had a guy give me a simple silver bracelet on our one month anniversay. It probably cost him $20. He told me it was so I think of him when I wear it. I wore it everyday for 4 years. When we broke up, the bracelet was the hardest thing to give up.
