It's sad isn't it? For a while I felt like not doing anything for my employees. Luckily, someone gave me the advice to just keep going. I never changed anything, kept the same level of gifting or parties each year & let the complainers complain. Most people were happy and grateful. Unfortunately, it's the complainers who are the most vocal.

Unfortunately, that's the nature of human nature. The more you give them something for nothing the more the desired effect - which would be gratitude - turns into ingratitude.
I don't see any way around it today. People just don't have good character nowadays because they're not raised right.
I would just use it as a learning curve to see which one of your employees are grateful and which ones aren't because it's the ungrateful ones who will stab you in the back and usually steal stuff from you becuase they figure in their heads - I'm not getting paid enough anyway so this is owed me." That's what people think believe it or not. I know I've seen it over the years.
At least you can now use it for a useful experience.

Hmm
Is your income low? Put yourself in their shoes dude. If my boss asked me what I wanted and the place he was ordering it from I did not like I would say "nothing, I don't like that place." Would that raise my morale? No it would not. Would it change anything? No Was it a nice gesture? Yes. Was I ungrateful? No Did he make the mistake of thinking everyone is the same? Yes Does it matter? No Life goes on let it go and get back to work.

Well, it's just human nature I guess. I think it's great you're doing something for your staff, that doesn't happen at most places. Maybe you could just setup the lunch ahead of time, before you announce it (maybe too late for this year) and then say, OK this is where we're going for lunch, and give them a choice of 2 or 3 entrees. That way it's a done deal and they wouldn't be able to change it or complain. You set it up according to your budget next time, and just give them a limited choice. Good luck!

It does seem like most people are never satisfied. In situations like these, you have to consider the source. Did you really expect them to be overjoyed? Next time, just let them know in advance that lunch will be provided and have it delivered without them knowing that you are still in the process of deciding. Choices can make people a little opinionated.
Way to go on being so nice to your employees! I'm sure they actually appreciated it.
Happy Holidays!

It's human nature, and not limited to low income folks either :-( It's very nice you do something for your employees, order what you think is right, and only listen to input on account of allergies & vegetarians and such. And do it for those who *are* happy with what they get, I hope there are some of them at least who appreciate it! :)

don't discuss it with them....just order a six foot hero or two and salads and soda and if they wish to partake, fine. If not, drop it off at a homeless shelter. You are not obligated to do any kind of holiday party for them but it is a nice gesture and raises morale.

If it's becoming an issue, have a chat with everyone about it or stop doing it. That will teach them not to "look a gift horse in the mouth".

Because they are poor , duhhhh . . .
NEXT time , do your order without the assistance . . .
Just order what you can & surprise them .
Employees always figure the boss is rich, rich , rich and they will make the most of any opportunity to "share" in it.
