Hi,i have been on lexapro 3 weeks now..i feel alot better! All of my side effects are nearly gone except my sleep is still disturbed. last weekend i went to a christmas party and had around 3 or 4 beers, i noticed that it made my sleep more disturbed, i didnt sleep any at all that night..where before the lex, beer would make me sleep well. Has this happened to anyone? Also, i have another party to go to friday night, i was thinking about maybe having some wine, i was wondering if that was ok, and if it would have the same effect as the beer and make me wired for some reason. Id love to hear from people who have experienced this. Thank you!!

I take mine around 4 in the evening, because within a few hours it makes me very sleepy...

Alcohol has always been known to alter the effects of medication. There is usually a warning not to drink alcohol when taking most meds, especially psychiatric meds. It can increase or decrease the effects of the medication. In your case, it decreased the effects and kept you up half the night. I had a friend years ago have a seizure while on Paxil after having two margaritas. I always tell people to use their better judgment, and if the label warns about drinking alcohol while on the meds, your best bet is to not drink.

I'm on lexapro and it only disturbed my sleep for about a week but at that point I started taking it first thing in the morning instead of in the evening and haven't had problem since. (When do you take yours?)
I am a social drinker so I have had a few drinks without affect. I guess everyone's body is different in how they handle drugs/alcohol but drinking won't be harmful while on Lexapro. If it messes with your sleep pattern then I guess it's just up to you as to whether that side effect is worth the drink of wine.

You should always be wary of mixing alcohol with any medication, especially psych meds...I am on abilify and drank 2 beers and ended up not sleeping all night! Consult your MD just to be safe!!

You can have a drink occasionally but not make a habit of it.
Talk to your doctor.
Reserve your drink for a special occasion (like midnight new year's eve) or when you go out to a nice restaurant or out with friends, limit it to one drink-two.
yes, alcohol does disturb you more on your meds than when not on them.

Probably not the best idea. Taking a depressant with anti-depressant drugs is a good way to mess up your brain chemistry even more.
