Frank Meadow Sutcliffe....... a pioneering Victorian photographer, noted for his photographs of Whitby, North Yorkshire (the town which also provided author Bram Stoker with the inspiration to write the story "DRACULA" + author Lewis Carroll to write "Alice in Wonderland".... while also being the town where famous explorer Captain James Cook learned how to sail ships before going on to discover Australia).

Your classmates will probably be doing the usual "pioneers" like Ansel Adams, Matthew Brady, Annie Leibovitz, Alfred Eisenstadt, Richard Avedon, etc., but why not the Photographer of the Stars? I refer to the 94-year old, 5' 1" dynamo Editta Sherman who photographed such famous stars as Tyrone Power, Henry Fonda, Mary Martin, Cary Grant, Helen Hayes, Marlon Brando, Angela Lansbury, Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Yul Brynner, Douglas Fairbanks, Charles Boyer, Carl Sandburg, Leonard Berstein, Charlton Heston, Elizabeth Montgomery, Anthony Quinn and none other than the youthful Elvis Presley, THE King, to name a few of the many celebrities that posed for her! Imagine, she started a little over 57 years ago in a profession dominated by men, while standing only 5' 1" she commanded the respect and admiration of world-famous celebrities!
You won't be disappointed with this lady! Check out these URLs:

OR, if you really want to surprise a few of your classmates, how about writing about The First Photograph Ever Taken In The Entire World? Are you curious? Check out the following URLs of Joseph Nicéphore Niépce (1765-1833) and The First Photograph:

Dorthea Lange- This master photographer was known for her realistic and haunting images of the Depression Era and WWII. She's not too popular and would have so much info on her. I think she's out of the ordinary and would impress your teacher.
