yes, I do have an idea. First of all, don't worry about the 4 month old. The baby is truly too young to even know what Christmas is. Second of all, your children are all older and are probably aware of the situation going on around them. Don't give in to the peer pressure of having to buy them gifts. I remember one christmas as a child where a tragedy had left our family without any extras. We barely had enough for food, but my mother managed and instead of waking up to a miserable christmas...we woke up to a present each. However, when we opened those presents, the boxes were empty. Inside was a note written by my mother on how she wished she could have given us presents, but realized the only thing she had to give was her love and she wrapped it as pretty as she could.

It taught me alot about Christmas and if your children were raised with the belief in what Christmas is really about, you shouldn't have to stress hon....they'll understand.

I kind of like the idea of giving a promise note. that would meet a wish or need they may have. for a future time of need , like time to give them of your skills or a time to give them of your listening or a time to give them patience on your part for them to learn and grow. these promise cards are a new idea and they will help us all learn how important and valuable a promise can be. and how realistic also. keep boundaries in check though.

Call around to local churches. Many of them have "adopt a family" programs.

You can also check out http://www.loveinc.org/ to see if there is a chapter close to you. They have "adopt a family" programs.
