Boxer: I'm talking about Yule. My family isn't really aware that I'm Pagan, though my mom is probably starting to guess that I'm no longer Christian. XD She doesn't seem to have a problem though.

I have a luck that i live in my own appartamnet, but then again, it's pretty damn lonely to celebrate holidays on your own.

On 21st, I cleaned the place and baked a Yule cake, then I lit a fire. The fire must be lit throughout the night, to help the new sun be reborn. During the longest night of the year, there is time for meditation and divining about the next year. I fixed and polished anew my set of runes.
On the solstice day (today), the cake is eaten and the house is decorated by evergreen branches and holly berries.

Blessed Yule to you!

Happy winter solstice to you! :)

I'm an atheist, but I can appreciate the winter solstice too. I'm from Iceland and there we usually only get a couple of hours of daylight on this day. Usually on winter solstice I spend some time outside in the dark, observing aurora borealis or other astronomic and natural phenomenons if the weather allows and then go home and switch on some Christmas lights to make things cosy for the loooong night. This year I'm abroad though and it's kind of freaky to have daylight for 10 hours per day here, so I don't really feel like it's winter solstice and living inside a city makes it impossible for me to go out to observe anything interesting, so I won't be doing anything special for the winter solstice this year.

I hope you'll still be able to enjoy the solstice. Just have your own little celebration. All the best! :)

Happy Yule to you! My family is pagan...so I am truly blessed. We gather together and hold a family Ritual, burn our Yule log, feast and open presents. This year our focus this year is on bringing light into the world by shining our own lights...to make the world a better place by being better ourselves. We hold an all night vigil to honor the Goddess and await the rebirth of the sUn. We play games, sing, tell stories, look at old photo albums, whatever. It's kinda like a huge family slumber party. Then just before dawn we will head outside to welcome the reborn sUn with songs. Then we head inside to see what Santa left us and have a huge family breakfast. This is the first time my whole family has been able to get together for Yule in 6 yrs! I honestly can't wait!

Just remember that Noel means "new light". You can hold the spirit of Yule in your heart and enjoy the holiday with your family on christmas (they co-opted most of our traditions anyways). Bright Blessings to you and yours this season!

Singing Christmas carols and ringing the Salvation Army bell. A Catholic friend of mine (we co-founded a community arts & service organization) wanted to do something for the Salvation Army this year that included some performance, and tonight was the only night they had available for us in a location that worked for everyone showing up. So all my plans went right down the tube (I wanted to make my boyfriend dinner, do some ritual work, have a really nice cozy evening at home...). But! I am helping the less fortunate, so I guess I can live with it. ;-)

Blessed Yule!

Blessed Solstice to you also!

My family will be celebrating the birthday of my grandson, our Winter Solstice baby, and will also celebrate the return of the Sun. We'll light candles on the Yule log (we live in an apt with no fireplace) and will thank the Goddess for our blessings. We'll sing Yule carols and feast.

I hope you'll be able to do a little something just for you on this Solstice day.
May you be blessed in abundance on your path.

I'm a Catholic. My pagan friends celebrated an early solstice with me (it was a mixed holiday party). I cooked them dinner and gave them a card, and they ate. I don't know if they have plans for today.

I have got a very clear night around here, so I will head up the roof with my scope and just look out, maybe a cup of wine, my honey right besides me. Just enjoy a great night, and how long it is.
