Recently i been waking up in the middle of the nite from a sound sleep and my heartbeat is racing like its gonna explode. Then i sit up and calm down. I fall back asleep like 20 mins later i wake up again with my heart racing. This use to happen to me 7 years ago a few times on and off since then but now its like everynite. I told my dr. he said to avoid caffiene. I have no idea what is wrong with me but its getting kinda scary. Last time i went to the hospital they said it was a anxiety or panic attack why would i wake up out of a deep sleep if thats the case? Does anyone else suffer from this and know what it is?

It is very common for people with an anxiety disorder (which you no doubt have) to be woken up by a panic attack. You need to see a good psychologist, who will help you find the reason behind your anxiety, how to deal with the panic attacks, learn what they actually are, and help you to eventually stop having them.

If you go to a website called www.panicattacks.com.au, there are two books I recommend you read (I read them and they're awesome). Power Over Panic, and Working Through Panic. They're available as hard copies, or eBooks.

The sooner you get help, the sooner you'll have things under control. Good luck :)

They are various reason you could be doing this. But I would suggest changing doctors and finding one that will take you serious about what is going on with you.
It could be just the caffine but it could also be sleep apena or panic attacks or even something to do with your blood pressure. Get a second opinion from someone who will help you.

-well, no need to worry..these might be 1.night terrors. few people[ more in females and children] people often wake-up with similar symptoms you have, they even sweat profusely during this time.these episodes recur even after years of first episode.this is one of the common type of sleep disorders,[if other medical disorders ruledout].as your doc advised, avoiding any stimulants, would help you.but if that doesn't help much, you must try sleep modification techniques, relaxation therapies and minimal dose of anxiolytics and low dose sedatives.but, please have the other medical disorders,if any, ruledout first.

You should go to the doctor and have them check you for sleep apnea. It's a condition that stops your breathing while you sleep. My co-worker has it and since she was diagnosed and is now under care for it she sleeps much better. She also is in a much better mood during the day since she is getting better sleep and not so stressed.

Go back to your doctor and have a complete physical check. It might be a symptom of something else.
