At my job last year we were told not to say "merry Christmas" but to say "happy holidays" instead. We are not supposed to talk about why there is a Christmas and just act like it is some day of the year when we give gifts and have family get togethers. I would say there is great effort being made to turn Christmas into an example of intolerance. You don't see Christians going to Muslims saying they can't do their holidays, or to Jews, or to any other sect for that matter.

Everyone practically benefits at Christmas. Don't even non-Christians give and receive gifts? I'm not sure what special treatment a Christian ever received at Christmas, we just don't like that we are not allowed to mention the person we worship who is the reason we have Christmas, whether it was his actual birthday, a pagan ritual or whatever. We know it as Christ's birthday, period.

I don't think so. It seems to me like the ones who claim such a war is going on are the ones who are annoyed over not getting special treatment over others and feel persecuted when someone greets them with "Happy Holidays", which can apply for everyone, rather than "Merry Christmas", which focuses on the Christians only.

I don't think there is any real "war on Christmas" going on, some people just miss getting special treatment.

No, but the idea of a "culture war" (as if culture was a static, nonevolving phenomenon) sells book and generates an audience.
If one's religious traditions traditions are limited to saying "merry christmas" to strangers, I recommend a pause for introspection.

It is just something else for the extreme right wing to scream and holler about. There is no war on Christmas except in the minds of people like Jerry Falwell.

Yes there is and it is a pity. I am Jewish and everyone in my family enjoys the bright lights and manger scene etc and having someone say Merry Christmas to me is not offending if it is said in the spirit of kindness, The war against Christmas was started by our newest inhabitants The name of these people starts with a M...........

Not really. Business trying to be more inclusive get accused of it rather unfairly. The problem is the Christians are far from the only group with festivals at this time, and they are trying really hard to exclude everyone else. You can see it here with the number of people questioning non-Christians celebrating.

Yes, it is a very sad time for many this year for Christmas. We should all keep the troops and their families in our prayers. God bless****

I really have not seen it in my end of the world.

Once again, I think the media and those that desire to sell their books turn this into a bigger deal than it really is.
