The 12 days of Christmas is from the 25th December through to the 5th January and it is on the twelfth that all Christmas decorations should be taken down. Sorry don't know the history of the twelve days of Christmas only the words.

when the calender in the Uk was brough in line with the continent 15 something or other - 12 days were added to the year making Christmas 12 days later than it was the year before. The folkes did not think that was right and so decided to keep the christmas festivities going until the real christmas 12 days later. hence the 12 days of christmas.
