I work and deal with a lot of rude people and I've wondered why such people act and react the way they do.

From what I can tell, many rude people are in denial and don't think they are rude so this is why they get upset. Some are also self-centered, acting as if everyone should either kiss their butts or get out of their way. Rude people seem to either not care about the way the act, or not realize that the very thing they dislike -getting rude answers- is the same thing that they do to others.

Because they have some terrible psychological disorder. I would advise them to visit a PSYICHIATRIST.
